Dallas Mavericks Debacle Continues
The trade of Luka Doncic has haunted the Mavericks since the day they made it. Yes, other beloved franchise players have been traded, but
nobody in the prime of their career, who wasn’t an impending free agent or demanding a trade.
The biggest centerpiece was Anthony Davis. As of Jan. 5th, Davis has played in only half of the Mavericks’ games. When AD plays, he’s a valuable asset, but when he doesn’t, that removes the leading scorer from your team. Davis will be 33 in March, and his ceiling will only drop as time goes along.
At least Dallas secured Cooper Flagg, who has shown a killer instinct on the floor, willing to do what it takes. At this time, the Mavs are 13-23, outside the playoff picture. Their 16-20 ATS record does not inspire hope, nor does 19-17 to the UNDER. A mess was created, and only sound management over the next few years will alter the Mavs’ status.
When Do the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Get Serious About Trade?
Right now, Milwaukee and its future Hall of Fame forward have to be honest with each other. The Bucks are not going to trade for another high-priced superstar to match Giannis Antetokounmpo’s talents. The current Bucks roster, even if they were to somehow find such a player, ranks in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference.
Giannis is extremely loyal, frankly to a fault, and he doesn’t want one basketball fan in Wisconsin to think he doesn’t love them.
However, Giannis should play with a team capable of winning another championship after what he’s accomplished. And, the Bucks are not going to catch a veteran Cleveland crew or up-and-coming Detroit team in the Central Division. A trade with Miami makes the most sense.
Is Oklahoma City Being Given Too Much Credit?
It was hard to say one negative word about Oklahoma City after its 24-1 start. Oddsmakers were doing their best to discourage Thunder bets, making them less than an eight-point favorite only four times in their 25 encounters. (17 times double-digit favorites) But five setbacks in 11 tries, three to up-and-coming San Antonio, showed what a long NBA season can do to any squad this time of year.
OKC has had its share of injuries, but who hasn’t? The Thunder’s visual effort has dropped recently, and higher-quality opposing teams are taking away their potent transition offense. With the defending champs recently 5-6 ATS, Oklahoma City is not an auto-play.
