Week 9 College Football Odds, Updates and Free Picks

We are back with the latest updates in college football from our previous Line Moves article. Learn what has taken place and look over our Free Picks that were 5-1 last Saturday.

Saturday, Oct. 25 – 7:30 p.m. ET /ACCN

It is not an overreaction for Louisville to be pumped up from -23 to -25.5 point home favorites over Boston College. The Cardinals handled the previously unbeaten Hurricanes. The Eagles are 1-6 (2-5 ATS) and are being outscored by 21.5 PPG in conference action. The only real question is the mental state of the ‘Ville, will they be focused enough to cover this chalky spread? Update: The betting masses thought the adjusted number was correct and did not move it. B.C. has turned the pigskin over regularly, so even if the Cardinals are not 100% sharp, they should still handle this large number by scoring off Eagles miscues.

Bet Percentage: Previously Louisville 97%, now 91%

Saturday, Oct. 25 – 7:00 p.m. ET /ESPN

The focus on this ACC encounter early is on the total, which has dropped dramatically by three points to 45. Based on the latest bet percentages, sharp money is forecasting the Cardinal won’t post many points with the Canes a 30-point favorite. That makes the approximate score 37.5 to 7.5, which is not far-fetched. Update: After the severe drop in the total, the betting action leveled off, though still favoring the OVER. Look for the Canes to reach the upper 30s for points, with a meaningless Stanford touchdown in the fourth quarter making this an OVER outcome.

CFB – (151) Ohio U. at (152) Eastern Michigan +12.5
Saturday, Oct. 25 – 12:00 p.m. ET /CBSSN

The Bobcats were listed as 10-point favorites. That is now up to -12.5, with the Eagles playing a seventh straight week.  EMU has struggled with the Bobcats, 1-9 and 2-8 ATS recently. However, they have covered four of six and could push Ohio U. if they are not ready to play. Update: There is a little pullback on Ohio U., dropped back to -12 road favorites. We would like to make the case for the home underdog, but nobody in FBS football permits more rushing yards than EMU, and the Bobcats are #20 running the ball. That should lead to long scoring drives against the Eagles.

Saturday, Oct. 25 – 10:15 p.m. ET /ESPN

After losing a second conference game, Utah has to win out and needs help to get back into the Big 12 title game conversation. The Utes’ defense has proven somewhat overrated, and they are not getting enough from the QB position when facing better opponents. While Utah is receiving public support, they are down to -13.5 from -15.5 at home. Update: As we figured, the bet percentage has caught up to the original line moved, which has been stagnant since Tuesday. Look for the Utes’ disappointment to be overcome playing for revenge after being blasted in Boulder 49-24 last season.

Bet Percentage: Previously Utah 90%, now Colorado 52%

CFB – (195) Illinois at (196) Washington  Total 55
Saturday, Oct. 25 – 3:30 p.m. ET /BTN

Both these Big Ten partners can score, averaging just over 34 PPG. Their offenses struggled against better competition, but neither defense fits into the – elite – category. Football bettors did not see eye to eye with the oddsmakers, lowering the total a couple of points to 55. Let’s see what this looks like on Friday. Update: With Washington having fallen from -5.5 to -4, that suggests Illinois has a better shot at being competitive. Under Bret Bielema, the Fighting Illini are 21-8 UNDER as underdogs with a further adjusted total of 54.5.
