MLB Betting Report: Best and Worst Teams Before the Postseason
We have under four weeks left of the baseball season. This is our last article looking at who you should bet on or against in the 2025 MLB campaign. The only remaining question is whether these numbers will hold up or if we will see unusual occurrences that seldom happen in baseball. (yeah right!)
Most Profitable MLB Teams to Bet On
#1 Milwaukee 85-53 +26.3 units
#2 Toronto 79-58 +14.7
#3 Miami 65-73 +8.1
#4 San Diego 76-61 +6.4
#5 L.A. Angels 64-72 +5.1
Notes: Milwaukee continues as a winning bet after five months of baseball. As it’s been since July, the numbers don’t lie that the Brewers are a good bet. They are #3 in scoring, #4 in runs allowed, #2 in both starting pitcher and relief pitching ERA. Toronto may not be a strong postseason team, but its unrelenting offense keeps the bases stuffed, ranking #6 in runs. The Blue Jays lead the majors in base-hits and are #3 in doubles, which keeps the congo line moving to home plate. San Diego has made a move for backers and is challenging the L.A. Dodgers, thanks to #3 in runs surrendered. The Padres’ offense has generally improved with the additions of Ramon Laureano and Ryan O’Hearn to the offense in the Baltimore trade. Miami and the club from Anaheim make the Top 5 by winning on the road, often as good-sized favorites.
Biggest Money MLB Burners for Bettors
#30 Atlanta 62-75 -38.4 units
#29 Colorado 39-98 -28.4
#28 L.A. Dodgers 78-59 -23.4
#27 Minnesota 62-74 -23.0
#26 Baltimore 61-74 -20.00
Notes: Atlanta took over this spot a couple of months ago and has not relinquished it. The Braves show up as a little below .500 in the stats. Nonetheless, they still have what is considered a good everyday line-up, losing as favorites with regularity. Colorado needs two wins this month to not have the worst record in baseball, set by the White Sox last year. The Rockies’ 11 wins in August were massive to probably avoid that dreadful fate, but nobody is backing them. The Dodgers were supposed to be one of the best teams in baseball history. Instead, they have cost backers a ton of cash. Minnesota popping up here is no surprise after their – Everything Must Go Sale – at the trade deadline. Baltimore returns to the Bottom 5, and one has to wonder what is going on in that Orioles clubhouse after you see how well two former Birds (mentioned above are thriving in San Diego.

Best MLB Teams for OVER Bets
#1 Toronto 75-54 (pushes not listed) +15.6 units
#2 Seattle 72-59 +7.2
#3 L.A. Angels 72-59 +7.0
#4 Athletics 69-60 +2.9
Notes: We’ve already discussed the Toronto offense. Being ranked #17 in runs allowed is the perfect compliment for a team that tops the charts for OVER bets. The Mariners’ better-than-expected offense and much worse-than-expected pitching have worked well enough to become the #2 bet for higher scores. The Halos #27 pitching staff and listed #5 in balls over the fence is a good mix for late inning OVER’s bets cashing for the Angels. The Athletics pitchers in Sacramento have destroyed the confidence of this group, but it’s done wonders for the young hitters who are thriving in their temporary home. The A’s offense made a strong move to reach #4.
Best MLB Teams for UNDER Bets
#1 Cincinnati 80-50 +24.8 units
#2 Pittsburgh 77-55 +16.9
#3 Kansas City 76-58 +11.9
#4 Colorado 75-58 +11.3
Notes: Playing in a small ballpark, Cincinnati regularly is going to have a higher-than-normal total. The Reds this season are a decided UNDER outfit because the starting pitching is excellent, the bullpen is above average, and the hitters consistently lack in clutch hitting. For the most part, Pittsburgh is a lesser version of Cincy in all areas, which makes sense, because the Pirates are not good enough to be the best at anything, except maybe frugal. Kansas City has gone on a stellar low-scoring run with excellent pitching matched with a less-than-desirable offense.
Best MLB Teams to Bet on the Run Line
#1 San Diego 77-60 +13.4 units
#2 Miami 81-57 +12.3
#3 Milwaukee 76-62 +10.0
Notes: San Diego’s push moved them up the charts in this category, covering spreads thanks to an improved offense and strong pitching. The Marlins hang around when in the road uniforms and are surprisingly 32-27 in day games, which has helped them as a run line bet. Milwaukee’s dominance over that 40-game stretch keyed its rise.
Biggest Run Line Money Losers
#1 Washington 65-72 -23.8 units
#2 Seattle 57-80 -22.9
#3 Atlanta 59-78 -22.8
Notes: Washington’s atrocious pitching staff (starters and relievers) has them failing to cover even though they are 21-18 in one-run outcomes. It’s great the Mariners are 28-20 in one-run games, not so much when you are playing them as favorites on the RL. Atlanta has buried bettors all season. Why not here as well?
