MLB Betting Trends & Tips for May 2025 – Baseball Bytes Report
The first full month of the baseball season is in the books, so let’s take a look at several key betting areas and see where we stand.
Best MLB Teams to Bet On – May 2025 Profit Leaders
#1 San Diego 19-11 +8.0 units
#2 N.Y. Mets 21- 10 +7.9
#3 Detroit 19-12 +7.1
#4 San Francisco 19-12 +5.8
#5 L.A. Dodgers 21-10 +5.6
Notes: The Padres were a known commodity with star power and deep pitching. To this juncture, they have weathered injuries that were not long-term and are poised to continue to play well as long as the pitching holds up. As good as San Diego’s staff has been (#2 in run prevention), the New York Mets have been better, as the best in baseball. The Mets’ offense is up to #9 in scoring, and they have a versatile offense. Detroit has picked up where it left off in 2024, with a balanced mix like the Padres and Mets. The biggest surprise is San Francisco, which is less dependent on the home run, playing in a big park, and manufacturing more runs. The Giants’ pitching is holding up, but it remains to be seen if that continues. It’s hard to call a team at 21-10 disappointing, but the Dodgers’ profit on bets is not great, but when you are -200 plus almost daily, you need at least two wins to make up for any loss.
Worst MLB Teams to Bet On – Fade These Teams in May 2025
#30 Colorado 5- 25 -17.9 units
#29 Chicago White Sox 7-23 -10.9
#28 Baltimore 12-18 -9.4
#27 Minnesota 13-18 -8.6
#26 Pittsburgh 12-20 -7.4
Notes – Just when we thought the 2024 Chicago White Sox were the worst team you could possibly see, the Colorado Rockies won five games in 35 days to start the season. The Rockies exited April ranked #29 in hitting and pitching for runs. Well done, Colorado ownership! That took some of the spotlight away from the White Sox, who were nearly as inept. Baltimore was supposed to be hitting their prime after being an up-and-coming club a few years ago. Orioles’ ownership has not helped their squad one bit to improve the pitching since the July 2024 trade deadline. In watching their below-average offense today, their approach is wrong to get on base, and they are a poor fielding team that makes lots of mistakes. Minnesota was thought to get off to a quick start with a user-friendly schedule. In truth, the Twins are probably a .500 club, but this start is like those 10,000 lakes in Minnesota in April, chilly. Pittsburgh in this position, who’s surprised?

Best MLB OVER Teams – High-Scoring Trends for May 2025
#1 Miami 21-9 +10.0 units
#2 Detroit 21- 10 +9.8
#3 Seattle 19-11 +7.2
#4 San Francisco 19-12 +5.4
Notes – The Marlins staff is the worst in baseball in runs allowed at 6.2 a game. To put that into perspective, that means scoring 7 RPG to win on average. Little wonder they are burying OVERs. The Tigers’ offense is a surprise, and oddsmakers to this point have priced them as – good pitching / average offense – and they’ve surpassed posted totals because of it. Seattle entered 2025 with tremendous starting pitching and well below average offense. The Mariners’ starting hurlers are only #18, but the offense is #7 and #3 in home runs. Go figure. That’s why the M’s are crushing OVERs. San Fran will likely level off in the next month or two because their stats don’t support this many OVERs. It’s more the Giants with clutch hits late to over by a half run.
Top MLB UNDER Teams – Best Low-Scoring Bets This Season
#1 Kansas City 23-8 +18.4 units
#2 Colorado 22-8 +17.3
#3 Texas 22-9 +15.4
#4 Baltimore 19-11 +11.1
Notes – As we start the second month of baseball, we have five double-digit teams by units for UNDERs and only one for OVERs. In spite of Bobby Witt Jr. on an extended hitting streak, Kansas City is last in runs scored and #4 in run prevention. That explains their wide disparity. It sure is strange to see the Rockies pop up in this category. The Rocks’ pitching is as bad as ever, however, this is the worst-looking Colorado offense ever! We were told last year’s subpar Texas was an anomaly coming off their World Series season of 2023. Too many injuries and too much good young talent will improve them this season. Welp, not yet, at #28 in scoring. You wouldn’t expect to see Baltimore here, but 11 of their 30 games have seen a total score of seven or fewer runs, which accounts for this many UNDERs.
