Who to Bet and Fade: MLB’s Hottest and Coldest Teams – June 2025 Breakdown
It’s time to take a look at who the Play On and Play Against teams are in early June.
MLB’s Best Bets: Teams Making Bettors Money in June
#1 Detroit 41-23 +14.3 units
#2 Chicago Cubs 38-23 +10.5
#3 N.Y. Mets 39-23 +7.8
#4 Cleveland 33-27 +7.7
#5 St. Louis 34-27 +7.3
Notes: The Tigers continue to play quality baseball and have become the top team to back for baseball bettors. A look at the numbers proves Detroit is for real, ranked in the Top 6 in runs scored and fewest runs allowed. The Chicago Cubs have also moved up the ladder of success, taking advantage of a far easier schedule in May compared to the one they faced in April. The Cubs’ offense has hung around the top of the majors all season, and manager Craig Counsell has taken the bullpen from a weakness to above average, which helped their ascent. The New York Mets’ offense is not always impressive. What is impressive about the Mets is their pitching, ranked #1 overall (2nd in both starting and relief). This is carrying them to this juncture. St. Louis has been clutch, coming up with great pitching some days and hitting on others, winning the majority of money lines that are -130 to +130. Cleveland hasn’t hit or pitched especially well. What the Guardians do well is win close games, with a 14-6 mark in games decided by two or less runs.
Fade Alert: These MLB Teams Are Burning Bettors
#30 Colorado 12-50 -27.9 units
#29 Atlanta 27-34 -20.5
#28 Baltimore 25-36 -17.3
#27 Athletics 24-40 -15.8
#26 Boston 30-34 -12.6
Notes – Colorado won their first series this week in 24 tries and engineered their first series sweep in over a year by taking down Miami. Don’t think for a second the Rockies are turning it around; they just found someone who, for three days, was worse than they were. From one of the up-and-coming teams to disaster in less than a year for Baltimore. (Having a good week, however) And it’s not bad luck for the Orioles, listed in the bottom six in giving up runs and scoring. Though Atlanta recovered after its unthinkable start, the Braves have again regressed. It is inconceivable that Atlanta, with so many players in their prime years for hitting, would be at 4.0 RPG after a baseball-best 5.8 RPG in 2023. After a pretty good start in Sacramento, the A’s could be the F’s as complete failures in losing 19 of 21. The Athletics’ pitching staff cannot find anyone to get anybody out. Boston has turned into a miserable disappointment. Considered an AL East contender before the season, nobody has more blown saves than the Red Sox.
Bet the OVER? These Teams Are Making It Pay
#1 Chicago Cubs 34-22 (pushes not listed) +9.8 units
#2 Athletics 35-23 +9.8
#3 L.A. Dodgers 37-26 +9.6
#4 Seattle 32-26 +3.7
Notes – This area is rather cut and dry as to why these are OVER teams. The Cubs and Dodgers have been in the Top 3 in scoring all season. Not only do they score consistently, they also frequently score a vast number of times. Since May 1, Los Angeles has tallied 9 or more runs 10 times, and Chicago has gotten 8 runs or more eight times. We mentioned the Athletics’ pitching collapse, this is where it shows up for totals! Most are aware that the Seattle offense has improved from the past few years however, the other reason for far more OVERs than expected is that the starting pitchers come in at #18, far lower than last year’s #1 ranking.

MLB UNDER Betting Trends: Teams to Back This Month
#1 Texas 41-20 +19.3 units
#2 Kansas City 38-23 +12.4
#3 N.Y. Mets 37-24 +11.6
#4 Pittsburgh 36-23 +11.5
Notes – It is easy to understand why Texas plays so many UNDERs. The Rangers don’t allow many runs, and they cannot score. Texas is Top 3 in fewest runs allowed and Top 4 in the fewest times hitting the plate to change the scoreboard. Kansas City has a virtually identical profile, in the Top 3 in the same categories as Texas. The New York Mets are the top team in baseball in run prevention, which is how they make this list. A case could be made that the Metropolitans’ offense is mildly underachieving, with everyone but Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso not hitting as expected. Pittsburgh cannot score runs, and opposing pitchers don’t have much to fear other than occasionally from Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds.
Top Run Line Teams: Who’s Cashing Big on the RL?
#1 Minnesota 35-27 +7.8 units
#2 Toronto 37-25 +7.7
#3 Detroit 36-28 +6.0
Notes – It is easy to forget that Minnesota started the season 4-11 SU. The Twins’ roster was not settled due to injury, and starting pitching was still being determined. Since that opening slump, Minnesota is an incredible 31-10 on the RL. As mentioned, Detroit has been terrific all year. Let’s see if missing two starting pitchers affects them. Nobody is talking about Toronto in baseball, but they are 21-11 on the RL as game time ML underdogs.
Run Line Struggles: MLB Teams Losing Big on the RL
#1 Baltimore 22-39 -23.9 units
#2 Athletics 28-36 -14.3
#3 Colorado 23-39 -14.1
Notes – Baltimore’s hot streak has helped, but as you can see, they have a LONG way to go to sniff .500 as a run line play. The team from Sacramento’s pitching staff has given eight runs or more 16 times since May 1. That will place you in a deficit for run line wagers. No need to go into detail about Colorado, we already understand.
