Week 5 College Football Odds, Updates and Free Picks
We have Free Picks for the last Saturday in September’s biggest Line Moves.
CFB – (117) Utah at (118) West Virginia +12.5
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 3:30 p.m. ET /FOX
Last week, Kansas clobbered West Virginia 41-10, and the Utes were no match for the Red Raiders in a 34-10 loss. Football bettors still see a vast talent difference in these Big 12 partners and lifted Utah from -10 to -12.5. Will the Mountaineers, at 6-0 ATS after failing to cover the spread in two out of their last three games, remain at this number for our next update on Friday? UPDATE: Utah was further lifted to -13. While it does make sense to back the Utes, the Mountaineers will show enough pride at home to cover, losing by 10 to 12 points.
Bet Percentage: Previously Utah 81%, now 79%
Doug’s Pick – Lean West Virginia covers
CFB – (119) Liberty at (120) Old Dominion -16.5
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 6:00 p.m. ET /ESPN+
Liberty was thought to be among the favorites in Conference USA, but after three straight losses and no spread covers in four tries, the Flames have been doused. Old Dominion is rested, off a bye week, after vanquishing Virginia Tech 45-26 on the road. Liberty has blown up from +14 to +16.5. It won’t be easy for the Flames, having the #126 run defense, facing ODU’s #16 rush offense. UPDATE: Despite the betting percentage going way up on Old Dominion, they have gone backwards to -14.5. Look for the Monarchs to come out flying, with Liberty on a 3-13 ATS downturn.
Bet Percentage: Previously Old Dominion 54%, now 94%

*NEW* CFB – (121) Memphis at (122) Florida Atlantic +12.5
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 7:00 p.m. ET /ESPN2
Off their big win over Arkansas, Memphis hits the conference road to Florida Atlantic. Once again, the Tigers have a multi-faceted offense that averages 36 PPG. FAU is a giveth and taketh outfit, scoring 30.3 PPG and allowing the same number of points. This has led bettors to revise the total from 60 to 63 points. This might seem a trifle high, yet the Owls have NINE turnovers in three games, which helps Memphis score more than expected. Besides, the Tigers are 13-3 OVER facing American opponents.
Bet Percentage: 65% OVER
Doug’s Pick – Play OVER
CFB – (125) Notre Dame at (126) Arkansas +4
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 12:00 p.m. ET /ABC
Sharp money is betting against Notre Dame’s leaky defense, which is permitting 32.5 PPG, ranked #100 in total defense. The Razorbacks have made critical fourth quarter miscues against Ole Miss and Memphis that cost them W’s. The Hogs have slid from +6 to +4 against the Fighting Irish. UPDATE: Notre Dame was modestly boosted to -4.5. If the Irish defense continues to tackle poorly and be burned by the pass, they will lose. However, we’re calling for a stronger effort from the Domers, who are 8-1 ATS after a cover as a double-digit favorite.
Bet Percentage: Previously Notre Dame 59%, now 53%
Doug’s Pick – Notre Dame covers
CFB – (133) Indiana at (134) Iowa Total 48.5
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 3:30 p.m. ET /Peacock
The bet percentage for this Big Ten battle says OVER, yet the early numbers say defense, with the total down to 48.5 from 51. The Hoosiers’ defense took away anything Illinois wanted to do last week in allowing 10 points. One does wonder about the Hawkeyes’ improved offense that tallied 34 points in three of their four contests. Indiana is on a 9-1 OVER run in away games. UPDATE: What was, still in is this confrontation, with a large drop but heavy wagering on a higher score. It’s all public money because of how much each team scored last week. But when the total is 49 or less, with a team like Iowa off two or more consecutive wins against the spread, a good team (60% to 80%), playing a team with a winning record, the UNDER is 43-13.
Bet Percentage: Previously 85% OVER, No Movement
Doug’s Pick – Play UNDER
CFB – (165) Tennessee at (166) Miss. State +7.5
Saturday, Sept. 27 – 4:15 p.m. ET /SECN
Mississippi State seems vastly improved at 4-0. The Bulldogs were dropped two points to +7.5 point home underdogs in this SEC showdown with Tennessee. Miss. State will look to pass against the Vols, who’ve been burned for 316 YPG facing FBS foes. Tennessee’s fast-paced attack is #7 in yardage; however, the home team that loves the – Cowbells – is #14 versus the pass. UPDATE: The Bulldogs have remained a +7.5 point home underdog and are tempting with the hook. Nonetheless, Tennessee has a great offense and can score quickly, making it harder for Miss. State to play catch-up. Toss in the Vols have injured defensive starters back, we’ll take the team in Orange to cover.
Bet Percentage: Previously Mississippi State 55%, now 62%
